Did Jeffrey Epstein really die by suicide?
This campaign spotlight does not ask voters to accept a slogan. It puts the official suicide finding, documented federal-custody failures, disputed autopsy concerns, current DOJ/FBI releases, creator investigations and the campaign’s own assessment on the same page so people can compare sources.
New York City records list Jeffrey Edward Epstein’s death on August 10, 2019. The NYC medical examiner ruled the manner of death suicide by hanging. DOJ OIG later documented serious failures at MCC but said it found no evidence contradicting the FBI’s determination that there was no criminality associated with the death.
ALIVE CLAIM UNSUPPORTED
No credible public evidence establishes that Epstein is alive
The campaign’s companion site IsEpsteinAliveOrDead.com should treat “alive” as a hypothesis requiring evidence, not as a fact. Official death records, the autopsy ruling and federal investigations all say he died in 2019.
Robert R. Motta campaign assessment
Survivor-first transparency — without pretending disputed claims are proven
CAMPAIGN POSITION / NOT AN OFFICIAL FINDING: Robert R. Motta says the documented custody failures, disputed medical evidence and continuing public-record questions leave him unconvinced that the official conclusion should end scrutiny. The campaign supports lawful independent review, maximum lawful disclosure, protection of survivor identities, preservation of evidence, and accountability for government failures. Disagreement with the official conclusion is presented here as a campaign assessment—not proof of homicide.
Campaign rule: survivors before sensationalism. Names or private details of victims should not be republished merely because a file was released. Public records should be organized so accountability can be pursued without re-victimizing people.
2019 leadership
Who was responsible for the Justice Department when Epstein died?
DOCUMENTED
President: Donald Trump
Jeffrey Epstein died in federal custody on August 10, 2019, during Donald Trump’s first presidency.
DOCUMENTED
Attorney General: William P. Barr
Barr was the 85th U.S. attorney general from 2019–2020. DOJ’s official biography also says he served in the CIA from 1973–1977. That prior service is relevant biography, but by itself does not establish an intelligence role in Epstein’s death.
Official findings vs. documented failures vs. disputed medical claims
OFFICIAL
NYC medical examiner / FBI / DOJ OIG
The official conclusion is suicide. DOJ OIG said MCC staff committed serious misconduct and dereliction of duty, leaving Epstein alone and unmonitored with excess bed linens, but said it uncovered no evidence contradicting the FBI’s conclusion that the death did not result from a criminal act.
DOCUMENTED FAILURE
Custody and camera failures
OIG found failures involving staffing, required rounds, cellmate practices, records and camera functionality. Those failures are documented even though OIG did not conclude homicide.
DISPUTED MEDICAL EVIDENCE
Mark Epstein / Dr. Michael Baden concerns
Epstein’s brother Mark has repeatedly challenged the suicide conclusion. Dr. Michael Baden, who observed the autopsy for the family, has argued the neck fractures and other findings looked more consistent with homicide in his view.
COUNTERPOINT
Medical examiner interpretation
The medical examiners who ultimately supported the official ruling have said the neck injuries can occur in hanging. More recent reporting on the autopsy physician’s testimony likewise described the case as consistent with suicide, while acknowledging why the high-profile circumstances warranted extra scrutiny.

Epstein dies in federal custody. Barr calls it an apparent suicide and orders FBI/OIG review.
June 27, 2023
DOJ OIG publishes its custody report documenting numerous serious MCC failures while saying it found no evidence contradicting the FBI’s no-criminality determination.
